David may have missed his run goal by mere minutes at last year’s Run for a Reason, but he did find something better.
When Emma and David both stood at the 2016 start line, wearing registration bibs only three numbers apart, neither expected to find both a new running - and life - partner.
Emma, who normally completes the more strenuous 21km run, changed to the 12km course – a decision that would turn out to be life-changing.
“Normally I would do the Half Marathon. But my son wanted to run with me so I changed course , and lucky I did.” she said.
When she met up with some friends at the start line, she met David who wore an all-too-familiar parkrun milestone t-shirt.
After a fleeting introduction, the starting gun shot and David sped ahead of Emma in the hopes of making a new PB.
But he didn’t forget Emma and by afternoon had tracked down her number and quickly arranged to meet for coffee.
Their near-consecutive registration numbers (separated only by her childrens' numbers) was just the first of many coincidences they would discover, soon realising that they had completed eight parkruns together, once even finishing with an identical run time.
Bonded over their mutual love for running and coffee, they now look forward to completing this year’s Run for a Reason together as a couple.
“We definitely would have crossed paths, but it was the Run for a Reason that finally brought us together” David explained.
Who knew that the HBF Run would become the reason for a new romance?
