What is the HBF Run for a Reason?
The HBF Run for a Reason, presented by the West Australian, is a walking/running event that is being held on 23 May 2010.

It will be a true community event, bringing together people of all ages and levels of fitness who will thrive on the opportunity to run for their reason, whether that be achieving personal fitness goals, supporting one of our six chronic disease charity partners or simply having a fun day out with family and friends.

Why is HBF holding the HBF Run for a Reason?
Our vision is to improve the health and wellbeing of everyone in the West Australian community.

Currently, 50% of adults do not exercise at recommended levels and over 60% of adults are overweight or obese. Tragically 80% of all deaths are caused by chronic disease and injuries and many of these are preventable through lifestyle changes, including increasing physical activity levels.

This event is part of the HBF Community Health Advocacy program – helping to improve the health of all West Australians.

Who are the charities?
We are partnering with six of Western Australia’s peak charities that are leading the way in reducing the prevalence of chronic disease, specifically, Arthritis WA, Asthma Foundation WA, Cancer Council WA, Diabetes WA, Heart Foundation WA and Lifeline WA.

We strongly encourage participants to fundraise for the cause of their choice.  Overall the event is aiming to raise over $200,000 in 2010.

Please note that entry fees do not benefit the charity organisations.   Entry fees go towards the operational and administration requirements of the event including traffic management, medical and emergency services, fencing, signage, waste management, security, registrations, participants packs and timing requirements.  An event of this size and scale requires professional management for safety and practical reasons.

What date is the HBF Run for A Reason and what time does it start?
The HBF Run for a Reason is being held on Sunday 23 May 2010 and commences at 8.00am.

Where does the course go?
There are two distances – the Act-Belong-Commit 14km and 4.5km.  You can walk, jog, stroll or run either distance.
